DIGIT course: Rights and Freedoms in Digital Design at the University of Bergen

DIGIT organised a course in Bergen from May 30-31, 2023 where participants from the DIGIT research school and Karlstad University in Sweden gained a fresh perspective on responsible digital design over the course of two days.

Led by Professor Kjetil Rommetveit from the University of Bergen, the course explored rights, freedoms, and the ethical dimensions of digital design. The agenda included presentations from esteemed experts in the field, covering topics such as "The Ethification of ICT Governance" by Prof. Niels van Dijk from Vrije Universiteit Brussels, "The Universal Ambitions of AI (...and everything else computational)" by Ass Prof. David Ribes from the University of Washington, "Ethical AI – policies of de-politicisation in neoliberal governing?" by Prof. Malin Rönnblom from Karlstad University, "Revisiting the Debate on Ethics Washing in the Context of AI: Theoretical Arguments and Empirical Findings" by Researcher Gernot Rieder from the University of Bergen, and "(How) Can you build morality into artificially intelligent systems?" by Prof. Kjetil Rommetveit.

The course provided a valuable platform for participants to engage in discussions regarding the integration of ethics into digital design practices.
